Detroit – Ford Motor It plans to introduce four new electric vehicles into Lincoln’s lineup by 2026, as the once-dominant American luxury brand reinvents itself to focus on electric vehicles.

The new cars were announced Wednesday night to coincide with the unveiling of a new EV concept called the Lincoln Star. The concept refers to the brand’s new design and technology trends, according to company officials.

“As Lincoln enters the next chapter in our transition to a zero-emissions future, Lincoln Star Concept will lead the way for our all-electric family of vehicles,” Lincoln President Joy Valutico said in a statement. “It is an excellent example of how luxury is redefining for the next generation as we transform the car into a third space – a true haven – for our customers.”

Lincoln Star is a crossover with a smooth exterior and panoramic windows. Many car decals are placed in the lights rather than traditional physical emblems. Its shape is reminiscent of a Land Rover Range Rover SUV.

The interior is where the vehicle is particularly different compared to Lincoln’s current lineup, which includes the Navigator large SUV and several US crossovers.

A star like many New luxury cars from competitorsIt includes a large display across the dashboard and a retractable steering wheel that can be stowed away. The two front seats of the car can be rotated to face the rear seats, providing a lounge-like position.

Star also features three “regeneration modes” that change the sound, lighting and even smell in the car’s cabin. The mood is coastal morning, conscious liveliness, and evening cool.

Automakers routinely use concept vehicles to gauge customer interest or show the future direction of a vehicle or brand. Vehicles are not intended to be sold to consumers.

The new Lincoln EVs could provide a much-needed boost to the brand. Lincoln expects electric vehicles to make up more than half of its global volume by the middle of the decade and 90% of its sales in North America by 2030.

“Now is the time,” Valotico said during a media briefing. “This is just the beginning of our electric journey.”

Lincoln has failed to gain much traction in the United States in recent years outside of its large Navigator SUV. The brand’s sales recently peaked at around 112,000 units in 2019. Amid supply chain problems, its sales fell to around 87,000 units last year.

Lincoln has had some success in China, where it led the brand to announce the best global retailer last year in 21 years. The brand’s retail sales were just under 190,000 vehicles, up about 7% compared to 2020.
