If you’ve ever seen a Jeep Wagner or a Jeep Grand Wagoneer stumble on the road, you’ve probably thought, “Jeeze, this thing is too small.” Well, friends, fear not, because Jeep has heard your criticism of its biggest hatch and slapped another seven inches with its wheelbase and 12 inches overall for the introduction of the Wagoneer L.

The duo measures 226.7 inches in length in order to keep pace with fellow full-size SUVs with longer wheelbases such as the Cadillac Escalade ESV at 226.9 inches and Lincoln Navigator L at 221.9. The passenger compartment hasn’t increased in size at all – the L still offers 179.2 cubic feet of space than a regular Wagoneer. Jeep says the extra foot of Wagoneer that customers get with the L consists of cargo space behind the third row.
This is a great collection of jeeps that will be revealed during the historic gas price hike. Perhaps to counteract that taller car, Jeep also announced that its all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane V6 will be standard on the updated models. The new engine should shave an mpg or two from the current shocking numbers for a V8, Jeep claims. But if saving money at the pump is your main concern, these big boys aren’t for you. Wagoneer’s current 6.4-liter V8 is already rated at 15 mpg, making it less efficient than the Escalade at 16 mpg or the Navigator at 17 mpg. It’s not even a competition when you consider the full-size European SUV models.
Jeep also brought a kill trim pack called the Wagoneer Carbide. It’s cool enough but definitely something we’ve seen brands bring to auto shows before. Black wheels and grilleIt kind of lost its flavor after so many years of the same thing. Not every car has to be a Batmobile.
