In a statement, the police did not name the gathering, but said it was responding to “demonstrations” in the city.
“There were no reports of injuries and the police are in complete control of the city’s streets,” the police said in a statement.
More than 500 participants are expected to travel to Ottawa this weekend, according to event organizers.
Law enforcement officials were preparing for protests.
Police warned participants that displaying hate symbols such as the swastika “would lead to charges”. The agency also warned that “targeting any community events will result in police and enforcement responsiveness.”
The city was paralyzed by the Freedom Caravan protests in January.
In the end, the protests attracted others who opposed the coronavirus restrictions at the time.
Hundreds of vehicles formed convoys, which converged on Ottawa, and several marchers on foot joined the vehicles. The demonstration blocked the downtown area as well as major roads between the United States and Canada.
